The Hideout Wedding in Kirkwood

THE WEDDING OF KAITLYN AND ALEX

a mountain wedding weekend in kirkwood

If you’re looking for a boho, woodsy wedding venue in California, then you will definitely want to watch this boho wedding film. Kaitlyn and Alex’s wedding at The Hideout in Kirkwood, CA was centered around community, family, and love.

When we first met with Kaitlyn and Alex to talk about their plans for their wedding at The Hideout, they expressed how important it was to center their wedding around community. Without their friends and family, they would not be the people that they are today. That’s why it was so important for them to have an entire wedding weekend to celebrate their love – a place where friends and family could come and go as they please, as well as participate in fun activities and events. In Kaitlyn’s own words, she called it a “Festival Wedding Weekend”.

Wedding at The Hideout in Kirkwood, CA

There could not have been a more perfect venue than The Hideout Kirkwood to host their wedding festival! Situated just south of Lake Tahoe, this woodsy wedding venue has it all: A 5,000 sq. foot lodge sitting on its own personal lake, a saloon with its own bar and entertainment center, and a gorgeous ceremony backdrop. It’s also nice and tucked away from the main road, thus surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest, green open meadows, rivers, streams, and granite mountain tops. It really drove home their wedding theme of community, especially because the only people around were their friends and family!

Welcome Day

The best part of having your wedding at The Hideout is that you get the property from Thursday to Monday. Since they had the property for the entire weekend, they kicked off their celebration with a “welcome day” which included all sorts of fun! Everyone was hiking, kayaking, cliff jumping, barbecuing, axe throwing, horse shoeing, and so much more. We absolutely loved seeing everyone having a great time because that is exactly what Kaitlyn and Alex wanted. It also provided incredible content for us to craft their wedding film 😉 They ended their night with an intimate rehearsal dinner and bonfire where they shared stories and laughs with each other. The natural beauty of Kirkwood completely elevated the entire experience.

The Hideout Wedding

The next day was their wedding at The Hideout. First, they started their day with a hike together (who says you can’t see each other before your ceremony?!), where they explored the gorgeous forests and mountaintops. They even saw a frog, which Alex tried to catch! Unfortunately, it slipped away, but it provided us all with some great laughs.

Afterwards, they went their separate ways to get ready. Kaitlyn did her own hair and makeup, which we are huge fans of! It was so personal and intimate, and just “her”. Once she finished getting ready, she gifted her bridesmaids custom jean jackets and it was seriously the coolest thing ever. Even Mack and I were totally jealous.

Then she jumped into her dress, which was a gypsy, bohemian styled long sleeve wedding dress. I don’t think any other dress would have been more perfect for her. It seriously fit her so well – not only physically, but the aesthetic matched her vibe one hundred percent. Her bohemian accessories and dried floral bouquet completed the look. She looked stunning!

Kaitlyn let her bridesmaids choose their own dresses and it looked incredible. The wedding dresses complemented each other so well against the stunning backdrop of The Hideout property.

Alex on the other hand was taking his time getting ready with his guys. He even accidentally cut his hand trying to pop open a beer bottle – oops! Him and his guys did look pretty awesome though. They wore red pants, suspenders, and these badass, dried boutonnières. To separate himself from his groomsmen, Alex wore a textured, taupe colored jacket.

The Wedding Ceremony

Their wedding at The Hideout made for a perfect, woodsy backdrop. With that being said, we won’t write too much about their wedding ceremony because you just have to watch. Their vows are probably some of the best we’ve ever heard. Especially Kaitlyn’s vows – she needs to become a writer!

Our favorite part of their reception is their first dance, hands down, because it symbolized everything that they wanted for their wedding. They danced to “From Now On” from The Greatest Showman and it made us smile so big. Once the song hit the high point, all of their guests joined in on the fun. We created a separate video of just their first dance because of how epic it was:

Post-Wedding Day Festivities

Because they had their wedding at The Hideout, they still had the property for another day after their wedding. They ended their weekend by having brunch and saying their goodbyes to their closest friends and families. Lastly, they had to end their day with a bang, so they cliff jumped into the lake wearing their wedding attire. How freakin’ awesome is that?!

It was a dream wedding weekend that we will never forget. Check out their wedding teaser film that we created for them just three days after their wedding!
